BACK BAR EQUIPMENT
Very similar in function to standard under-counter refrigeration units and low-profile coolers, back bar equipment keeps cold drinks within reach and can even open up some additional space in the walk-in coolers and freezers. Back bar units are often taller and can have interior lighting for displaying products. They can be critical to handling heavy volume which is why not only bars but coffee houses, sandwich shops and bakeries employ back bar refrigeration equipment.
Back bar refrigerated units generally vary in length from two to eight feet and from roughly two to two-and-a-half feet deep. Also, consider dual-zone coolers/freezers to eliminate the need for two units.
While metal doors retain the cold better, glass doors don't require frequent openings to check stock -- which can ultimately reduce energy loss. Other features to consider include quick-cleaning surfaces, self-closing doors, proper insulation and a variety of load capacities and countertop surface areas. If space is limited, sliding doors are preferable to those that open outward into the workspace.
